Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 11, 2026

Palit (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the Palit mobile application and the Palit website, including the NYC showtimes board. This policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. Section 1 covers the app; section 2 covers the website, which you can use without an account.

1. The Palit Mobile App

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. Your password is hashed and never stored in plain text.

Profile information: Display name, bio, and any other profile details you choose to provide.

Usage data: Your film rankings (ELO ratings, tier assignments), reviews, watchlist entries, and community activity such as posts and notes.

Device information: We may collect basic device information (device type, operating system version) for crash reporting and app performance purposes.

2. The Palit Website

The showtimes board at palit.me is open to everyone. You do not need an account to browse it, and we do not ask you to create one to see any listing.

What we record when you browse: when you click through to a cinema’s ticket page, we record which screening it was — the film, the venue, the date and time — and, if you answer the follow-up question, whether you went ahead and booked. We also record that a visit happened, so we can tell what share of visitors use those links at all.

How we tell one visit from another: your browser stores a randomly generated identifier for the session. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account unless you choose to sign in. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Your IP address: we store a one-way scrambled (hashed) version, never the address itself. It exists so that a single source cannot flood the site with automated submissions. We also record basic browser information, such as your browser and operating system.

Feedback: if you send us feedback through the form on the board, we store what you wrote, the page you were on, and your email address only if you chose to give one.

If you sign in: screenings you log are stored against your Palit account, the same account the mobile app uses, and are covered by section 1.

Advertising and cross-site tracking: the website does not use third-party advertising networks or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell personal information. If we introduce advertising in future, we will update this policy before doing so.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the Palit app and your account
  • To calculate and display your ELO-based film rankings
  • To show community content (rankings, reviews, notes) to other users
  • To display curated event listings for NYC arthouse screenings
  • To send you service-related communications (e.g., password resets)
  • To improve the app experience

4. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which provides the database and authentication infrastructure. Supabase uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) for hosting. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following cases:

  • Public profile and activity: Your display name, rankings, and reviews may be visible to other Palit users as part of the community features.
  • Service providers: We use Supabase for data storage and authentication, and Vercel to host and serve the website. We use TMDB for film metadata, and AMC Theatres’ public catalog API for showtimes (no personal data is sent to either).
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.

6. Your Rights

You can:

  • Access your data through the app at any time
  • Update your profile and account information
  • Delete your account and associated data by contacting us

7. Children's Privacy

Palit is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of changes by posting the new policy in the app or via email.
